Happy September! We've gotten off to a great start here in Music Class. The kids are learning and having fun at the same time. I love those laughs and giggles that brighten up my day!
PreK has been learning about dancing and moving to music. They have learned about fast and slow music as well as high and low sounds. We love using instruments!
Kindergarten has been doing a Farm Unit with fun songs, dances and instruments.
1st Grade has been learning about the different sounds of non pitched instruments such as drums, triangles, tambourines and maracas. They are also learning how to use body percussion for making music (clapping, stomping, snapping and patting).
2nd Grade has enjoyed using Boomwhackers to discuss melody and pitch. They have enjoyed playing familiar songs with the use of these plastic tubes.
3rd Grade has experimented with the xylophones and working to play familiar songs. Many students experienced a sense of pride at the completion of their song.
4th Grade has been reviewing note names of the music staff as well as note values in order to play music. They then apply their knowledge by playing to guess a list of songs. This has been a cooperative challenge and they seem to enjoy the ability to play for each other.
5th Grade has enjoyed the challenge of review games to show off their knowledge of instrument playing, note name identification, and how to follow the melody in songs.
I say all of this to not only give you an idea of what we are doing in music but to also increase interest in our musical world. As concerts are planned and rehearsed we hope you will show your support by getting involved and watching your child(ren) show off their talent!
