My goodness it is November already!
A quick update to what has been happening in the musical world here at Bloomingdale.
Pre-K has been busy identifying patterns and opposites in Music. They love to dance, sing, and move everywhere! Their energy is contagious (and exhausting) but what a great group of kiddos.
Kindergarten is preparing holiday songs for a concert in December. We are excited to play instruments, sing upbeat songs, dance a little hip hop, and share our awesomeness!
1st & 2nd Grade have been preparing for their December trip to the Trustees Theater in Savannah for the Musical Explorations event. We have learned about three different artists, their musical style, and a couple of their songs. We have enjoyed dancing the Grapevine, the Two-Step and the Waltz. We have also been practicing to speak a few words in French. This past week we watched video clips from The Sound of Music and sang the "Do-Re-Mi" song.
3rd Grade recently used their musical vocabulary and knowledge to listen to pieces by Vivaldi, Kosma, and Tchaikovsky in order to complete a Fall listening glyph. Currently we are working to learn and perform the musical word: rondo. We develop rhythm sections and then play them cooperatively in groups.
4th Grade has enjoyed using a technology game called Kahoot to test their knowledge on instruments as well as composers. This week we have begun learning about Beethoven and his complete devotion to his music but not so to his appearance or social status.
5th Grade is starting a unit on Drum Circles. Drum Circles involve various instruments, not just drums. The concept with drum circles is cooperative play and experimentation with improvisation. It introduces students to rhythms and instruments of different countries.
